Peralta, NM

Chama Valley Humane Society

Chama, NM

Founded in 1998, the Chama Valley Humane Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely through fundraising, private donations, and grants. Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership. We serve a 600 square mile area of northern Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We do not have a shelter, but we try to take in all animals we can from the Village of Chama holding facility as well as strays and unwanted animals throughout our region. All rescued animals are fostered locally until they can be adopted or transferred to no- or low-kill shelters or rescues. In addition to rescue and foster, we support the following programs: • A low-cost spay-neuter program for community pet owners • An Angel Fund to help pet owners pay for unexpected veterinarian bills through a no-interest revolving loan • WAG ‘n READ - A Reading Education and Assistance Dogs® program that works in our local schools to strengthen the animal-human bond while enhancing the reading experience for children

Desert Paws Inc. Animal Rescue

Pena Blanca, NM

we are filling the 'missing link' for abandoned animals in our area. We are a small rural community surrounded by poverty-stricken towns, campgrounds, and reservations where many animals are not neutered/spayed, dumped, abandoned, and neglected. We rehab them, spay/neuter them, get veterinary care for them, socialize, and find forever homes for these great affectionate rescue pets.

Felines & Friends New Mexico

Santa Fe, NM

Kitty City NM

Alamogordo, NM

We are a statewide no-kill cat adoption center, we focus our efforts pulling cats from our high kill city shelter but we also take animals from the public as whe have room. Our capacity right now is aprox. 120 cats but we are in the middle of construction of a larger facility and that will add about 75 cats to our capacity plus add a facility for a vet to spay/neuter onsite. We started by taking over a small rescue that was already a 501c3 and it has grown from there. We enjoy rescuing animals and recently have gone over 1000 cat adoptions in the 5 years we have had the rescue.

Pet-a-Bulls

Albuquerque, NM

Pet-a-Bulls was formed to address the homeless pet crisis in the State of New Mexico in which "bully breed" dogs comprise a minimum of 40% of the total dogs entering the State's shelters while very few - roughly 10% or less - leave the shelter through adoption to appropriate family homes. Our goal is to lead by example through our training and then placement of ready made family pets into carefully matched, appropriate forever homes that treasure these pets as highly valued family members and an integral part of their human pack. Our hope is that by demonstrating how adoptable these breeds truly are to the States many shelters and thus to the public in general, a far greater increase in adoptions of these dogs will be initiated directly from the shelters themselves. While our primary focus is placed on American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs, the many and various “Mastiff” breeds and other “bully breeds” in general, we also accept other canine breeds as space and time allow to utilize the internet, mobile adoptions, PetSmart adoption events, and other adoption venues to ultimately place these pet into loving, permanent homes.

Pick of the Pound, Inc.

Los Lunas, NM

Pick of the Pound, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are a dedicated group of volunteers doing what we can to help the homeless animals of Valencia County. Our special emphasis is on helping the animals at the Valencia County Animal Shelter. Because of the low adoption rate at the Valencia County Animal Shelter, Pick of the Pound, Inc. was formed to help find homes for many of the wonderful animals at the shelter. Working with shelter personnel, we take animals out of the shelter and place them in foster homes. The animals are tested for heartworm or feline leukemia, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and then put up for adoption. Our efforts started in September 2000. In only five and a half years we found loving homes for over 1600 animals!
