We also rescue cats in need of homes from a multitude of situations and provide adoption opportunities to cats ready to have a furrever home.

The Grainger County Humane Society receives NO funding from our local government or other outside sources. The humane society exists on donations from private individuals and businesses, and volunteer effort. We DO NOT have an animal shelter or an Animal Control Officer at this time. All work is done by volunteers. A Spay/Neuter Clinic is our immediate goal. A Shelter/Adoption Facility and an Animal Control officer are part of our long term goals.

The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society promotes Spay/Neuter. We pull animals from our local animal shelter and place them in foster care, give them any medical attention they need, spay/neuter prior to adoptions. We also, review craigslist on a daily basis and contact individuals listing "free" puppies, dogs, cats and kittens in an effort to get them to surrender to us and attempt to educate these individuals about spay/neuter and the danger of listing free animals. Along with our foster animals, we take animals currently residing in our local shelter to adoption events.

Loudon County Friends of Animals is a group of caring dedicated volunteers who are working hard to rescue and place the animals that find their way into the public shelter system. The animal shelter in Loudon County, Tennessee does not have the resources, financial backing, space or manpower, to house all the stray and surrendered animals on an indefinite basis. Therefore, the clock starts ticking for these animals at the moment that they are deemed ready for adoption. Our primary mission is to work to insure that as many animals as possible are rescued through either direct adoption, or placement into the foster care system before the clock stops ticking and their time is up. In the meantime, we also support spay/neuter programs and trap and release effort (TNR) of feral cat colonies in order to reduce the number of animals being born which might eventually find their way into the shelter system. This includes veterinary care, food and any other necessity until responsible, loving homes can be found for all adoptable pets. All animals shall be spayed or neutered and we will make every effort to encourage those we encounter to do the same.

Our organization is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit, formed in 1996 to help save adoptable dogs and cats from euthanization at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. We specialize in mixed breeds. Our shelter is often filled with very adoptable animals that must die because of space limitations, and we are devoted to giving a second chance to as many as we can. We house our animals in foster homes or boarding kennels for as long as it takes to find them permanent homes. We participate in numerous community events to promote our animals and the concept of adoption/rescue.

The Tennessee Humane Animal League is a 501(c)3 organization devoted to the placement of homeless or surrendered animals through The Pet Placement Center (PPC). The PPC survives entirely on donations and fundraising activities. We are the oldest no-kill animal adoption center in Hamilton County. The PPC is a private adoption center and does not do animal control or do animal pick ups. Once an animal comes to the Pet Placement Center it will remain safe with us until it is adopted into a responsible permanent home. Our mission is to reduce animal suffering by promoting intelligent animal care through education and example, to find responsible homes for lost or abandoned animals or for those pets whose owners can no longer keep them, to promote spaying or neutering of dogs and cats in order to reduce and control the millions of unnecessary and unwanted animal births, and to emphasize responsible guardianship which includes proper and decent feeding, available water, shelter, necessary shots and exercise.
